Yesterday we went shopping at a great Italian grocery store, Frank And Sal's, and then under warm sunny skies we cleaned the boat.  After inexpensive drinks at the Great Kills Yacht Club, we prepared a wonderful pasta meal on the boat.  Fresh baked bread and meatballs with special locally made sauce.  Mmmmm so good!

This morning we woke up and started to prepare for our departure.  Looking at the weather report we saw rain in the picture until 10:30 this morning.  We relaxed and had a cup of coffee.  Heading up the Hudson at 11:00am, if all goes well.

Thursday
June 1st, 2017

We left Manasquan, NJ yesterday, under foggy skies.

Statue holding lantern is near the entrance to Manasquan Inlet..

Still quite a bit foggy early in the morning...

We pulled out onto the Atlantic Ocean around 9:30 am with our radar's on...
By the time we got to Sandy Hook Point, we could see the boats in front and behind us very clearly.

We were second from the last boat...had a pretty good ride up to Great Kills Yacht Club on Staten Island...

Today we took a 1 hour ride on the New York city express bus to the 911 memorial...

One of the new towers...

This is one of two identical memorials.  It is directly over the area where the North Tower stood...they have another just like it for the South Tower...

Around the tower memorials are the names of the ones who passed when the towers came down...

North Tower location...

We decided to take the Staten Island Ferry back to, of course, "Staten Island."

No charge for the ferry ride...
Cool!

Area where we just left from the ferry...

New York skyline...

Passed very near to the Statue of Liberty...

We can anchor over night just to the left of Ms. Liberty...
but we don't plan to...

When we leave Great Kills Yacht Club we hope to get a picture of our boat in front of the statue.

Tuesday
May 30th, 2017 evening edition

Fire and Rescue dove on a race boat to raise it that collided with another in last weeks high speed race.

Not much to see so far until they lift her up and out...

Manasquan Inlet which we hope to be heading out of tomorrow, Wednesday, morning... Weather report shows the winds at 5mph...and we'll be heading to the Great Kills Yacht Club on Staten Island, just south of New York...
Today though, it's still rolling...

Below, pictures are from our walk along the ocean side boardwalk...

The homes you see are all rentals.  We were told this is a New York summer vacation area.

Jeff, Brenda, Mike and Joell all dressed warm for the beach.

This bar is right on the water.  All inclosed with sliding doors.  Great for a blustery day like today.

Here we are looking at the ocean front bar from the outside.

Carnival stile booth after booth.

Many small restaurants.

We ate lunch today at this restaurant.  We looked for the one with four enclosed walls.

We are currently stuck at Captain Bills Marina.  The boat next to us went down the river further to another Marina.  They were rolling terribly through the night.  Take a look.

We have pulled our lines in a little tighter and are now able to get off the front of the boat.  Joell  borrowed our friends step stool to get back on, but got off with the help of Larry and Mike.

Mike getting on the boat.  Notice the water is up to the top step on the wall ladder.  4 foot tide change.

Sunday
May 28, 2017

We spent our last day in Cape May exploring the beach area.  It was a sunny, yet not too warm of a day.  Seas were still showing us large swells, so we waited until the next morning, Friday May 26, to continue north on the Atlantic Ocean.  It was a wonderful day at sea.  We were very glad to have patiently waited for good weather.

We spent the night in Atlantic City, at Farleys' State Marina on the Golden Nugget grounds.  We drank and ate a nice evening meal.  The next morning, today, we headed north again.  Enjoying the weather window.

We are now at Captain Bills' Landing Marina.  We hope to leave tomorrow for Staten Island, NY.
No electric or water hook up but at a dollar a foot we'll take it...

Windy but beautiful at Cape May beach.  Larry and Elke just enjoying the sun.

All the rocking chairs were taken, but a great idea!

Mike and Larry wanted to see what the 2017 bikini's looked like.

Must be a group hug...

We were amazed how many people were on the beach.  It was sunny but in the 60s.  The folks also had to pay to use the Cape May beaches 😒

All the restored buildings looked better from on foot.

Ate huge pieces of pizza at the Mad Batter.

Many of the homes were decked out for the Memorial Weekend.  Beautiful!

Look at the detail on this home.

Beautiful bloodies and beer after lunch.

As we approached Atlantic City the skyline looked pristine.

Elwood slept a little during the ocean ride.  Tells you it wasn't too bad.

Today we arrived at the Captain Bills Landing Marina.  It is an experience to say the least.  At a $1 a foot, there is no electric or water, just a place to dock.  Can't even get off the boat except by dinghy.  These slips are for workboats which are currently down in Cape May...

A cold Holiday Sunday and the locals have to get out.
This sandbar is totally under water after the tide comes up about 4 feet...
You don't want to tie your boat up too tight, otherwise it'll be hanging by the lines...
